What do you first think of when you hear the word “compost”?
When we hear it, we see something valuable. We see communities coming together around gardens and good food. We see people learning about natural cycles that they never knew possible. We see people wanting to Regrow Eugene.
Our Plan
Regrow Eugene’s goal is to introduce and increase sustainable neighborhood composting programs in Eugene. Starting in the places where students like us live, like fraternities and sororities, and moving out into the communities that we share with all of Eugene. We see this as a very important first step towards decreasing landfill and changing the way we all approach our waste.
Rethinking Compost
Instead of being trash that we pay to get rid of, our food waste can work for us. Yard waste and food scraps make up 23% of the US waste stream, nearly all of which goes into landfills. Instead of going to the dump, table scraps and almost all organic waste that your home produces can feed a garden that can feed you and your friends and family.
See how this works?
By holding onto our “trash” and learning how to process it (super easy), we can create something that provides for us instead of contributing to problematic landfills.
Regrow Eugene believes that anyone can be a part of this solution. Eugene is already a leader in the “recovery” of all that useful organic material for use in community gardens and landscaping. There are plenty of neighborhood farms and backyard gardens to learn from. Talk to us or search the web to learn about how you can make your food waste work for you through composting!
